The Black Plague in the Iberian Peninsula.

Good afternoon everyone. On March 12th I was supposed to leave for Lisbon to begin a tour of 5 weeks in the Iberian Peninsula as an expert scholar for Smithsonian Journeys. The trip was cancelled on March 11th due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

After the cancelation I started preparing an illustrated talk about the Black Plague in the Iberian Peninsula in the XIV century. I has been an amazing experience and I will be presenting it live on July 10th at 5 pm Pacific standard time.

We will discuss when, how and where the medieval pandemic started, how it arrived to Italy, what happened there and how it arrived to the Iberian Península. Then I will discuss the social, financial, religious and scientific implications of the plague and we will venture into the artistic expressions that came about as a result of the “Great Mortality”. I think you will be amazed to see how many parallels there are between what happened then and what is happening now.

There is a limit of 500 attendees for this one time only presentation, so I would like to suggest you reserve your spot at your earliest convenience.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I will see you soon!
